Discolored Water in West Bend, WI
Challenge
This customer called in with bad water and no one could seem to help them. They had a brand new softener, that was only a few months old, and an Iron Curtain (about 6 years old) installed already but still had discolored orange water everywhere in the home. The new water softener was plumbing in first before the Iron Curtain, so their brand new softener was taking on 7 ppm and then the water was going through the Iron Curtain.
They were trying to figure it out on their own and even put in a chlorine injector to see if that would help. Finally they decided to call us to see if we could fix their issue.
A Project Coordinator went out to their home to assess the situation. After testing the water they had 7 ppm of iron, and a bad sulfur smell coming from the pressure tank and could be smelled throughout the entire home as well. Also found that .3 ppm of iron was coming after all the treatment, and the water was clearly discolored. After a few other tests, the Project Coordinator discovered that the discoloration of the water was being caused by Tannins in the well, and that none of the equipment that was already installed would be able to take care of their biggest concern.
Solution
The Project Coordinator recommended taking out all of the already installed equipment and starting fresh with a whole new system. They ended up installing a new EVFE-1354 Iron Filter for the 7 ppm of iron in the water, an EVT1-1354 Tannin Filter w/CR100 to take care of the tannins and also soften the water all in one unit, and also a big blue in line housing with a MAZ filter to help clean up anything else that might be coming through after. The customer also opted to go on a service plan with the Clean Water Center, so that we can ensure the equipment is working, and that they ALWAYS, have the clean water they deserve.
