Mr. K. was new to well water and needed some help to know what he had and if it was working. Our project coordinator went out to see what Mr. K. had and how we could help. After testing the water and looking at the equipment we found the softener was working, but the chlorination de-chlorination system was not. We found that removing this system and replacing it with our EVS sulfur filter will be an easier and more efficient system. Mr. K. is very happy with the new system and that he no longer needs to fill the system with chlorine.

Mr. and Mrs. S had a 27 year old softener that finally reached it's end. Industry average for water softeners are 10-15 years, so a replacement was needed asap. After calling us and sending out a Project Coordinator for water testing and to scope plumbing, we were able to find what worked best for the household. Mr. and Mrs. S wanted to look into an option that allowed us to service their softener on a regular basis for them to have one less thing to address in the home themselves. So we found that the EVR with the maintenance plan was the best fit. It's our most salt efficient system that minimizes having to refill the salt and the maintenance plan allows us to provide multiple services once a year to keep things working longer than the industry average of 10-15 years with true effectiveness. The EVR should now be the last water softener they need in their current home.

Mr. W. lives in Menasha, WI on a particular road that is notorious for high levels of sulfur; sulfur gas causes rotten egg-like odor in the water. In the past he had gone through numerous pieces of equipment with different companies until he found us. Years ago he installed our EVS sulfur filter that has solved his sulfur problem. However, recently he started to notice a little bit of that smell breaking through once more and he had recently rebedded his media in the filter. A Project Coordinator was sent out and it was found that the well casing was coming up from the well and plugging up the valve to his sulfur filter and this was the cause of the break through. Well casing is common sediment to see come up from a well, but it can most definitely cause build up and damage. After finding the source of the problem, we installed our Twist II Clean sediment filter prior to all treatment equipment and for peace of mind, we installed a much smaller sulfur filter after all treatment as a fail safe. Mr. W. no longer is concerned about a foul odor in his home from the water.

Where does Menasha’s drinking water come from?

According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, about 66% of Wisconsin residents get their drinking water from groundwater, and the other 33% source it from Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, or Lake Winnebago. The local government reports that about 4 in 10 people get their drinking water from private wells.

Owners of private wells are responsible for monitoring their private wells to ensure they are safe to drink from. Nitrates and arsenic, for example, are common, naturally occurring contaminants in Wisconsin soil and are often found in private well water. In Outagamie County, for example, the percentage of private wells that tested over the safe level of arsenic in drinking water was nearly four times the percentage of private wells overall in Wisconsin. However, Outagamie County reported lower numbers of unsafe nitrate levels in private wells compared to Wisconsin overall.

The Importance of Filtering Your Water

How unsafe is unfiltered water?

Proper water filtration is essential for maintaining a safe source of drinking water. Even water that is not for consumption (animal or human) should be free of harmful contaminants that can affect our lives in other ways. Water for showering, washing your clothes, nourishing your pets, and even watering your plants should be healthy. Water can be considered “dirty” due to chemical pollutants and disease-causing microbes.

There are several short-term and long-term risks associated with drinking contaminated water. Exposure to chemicals in water can result in skin discoloration or, eventually, damage to the nervous system or organs. Ingesting water with disease-causing microbes is relatively rare in the United States nowadays because of advanced water filtration practices, but that used to be a common spreader of infectious diseases, including typhoid fever and cholera. There are parts of the world where these diseases still run rampant because of inadequate or tainted drinking water supplies.

Common Sources of Drinking Water Contamination:

  • Industry & agriculture— Rainfall and water runoff can carry fertilizer and pesticides into the water system. Storage facilities for these compounds can also spread contaminants through rainfall and water runoff.
  • Human & animal waste— Sewage and septic systems can spread harmful microbes into drinking water systems. Common contaminants found in these scenarios include E.coli and Giardia.
  • Treatment & distribution— Some treatments meant to clean the water can leave behind harmful chemicals such as trihalomethanes. Flaws in the water system, such as broken or rusty pipes, can also contribute to contamination.
  • Natural sources— Groundwater can pass through soil and bedrock that is contaminated with natural arsenic, heavy metals, or radioactive compounds such as radon.

Changing Water Conditions

We had a customer who had reached out because in the last few months there water developed a sulfur smell. This customer had lived in the home for 40 years and never had any odor so he was concerned with what what was going on.  We sent out a project coordinator to test the water and see what was going on. After some tests we found a high amount of sulfur in the water, along with the sulfur the hardness and iron levels changed a lot as well. Its not common for water to change like this but given the area on the lake things can change over time. We recommenced a sulfur filter and a new water softener to handle the new water conditions.

Whole Home and Point-of-Use Water Treatment in Menasha, WI

It had come to this customer's attention that city water is not soft, and became worried about what was in the water that was coming from the city. He has a family with children and wanted the best water conditions to help raise healthy kids.

All municipal water distributors chlorinate their water by law to safely transport water to homes. Once the water is in your home however, chlorine is useless and some may be sensitive to it. Chlorine smells, and can irritate the skin and eyes.

The customer decided to install our EVRC-1054U, which is a split tank unit.  Activated Carbon at the top of the unit treats chlorine, and the resin in the bottom treats water hardness.

For all the other contaminates that may be in city water, Reverse Osmosis is the way to go. They are more reliable than distillers and can be state certified in specific contaminants and easily fits under the sink.

Hard & Salty Water - Menasha, WI

Mr. and Mrs. G. called to see if we could come figure out why they were getting hard water spots on their shower and dishes and also wanted us to see why their water had a very salty taste. Our technician tested the water when he arrived and found that there was significant hardness breakthrough with the water treatment equipment.  As he looked over the system changed a few parts, he noticed that there was well casing buildup in the valves of the unit.  He recommended a Twist II Clean filter to be installed before the water softener to catch those well casings.  They elected to go with the new filter and now everything is working great.

Sulfur Smell on City Water - Menasha, WI

Mr. and Mrs. A. were experiencing sulfur smell issues on city water.  Nate, our retail manager, went to visit their home and inspect the situation.  He was able to give the homeowners a few different options to choose from to help eliminate the terrible smell they had.  The homeowners decided on an Evolve EVBF-1054.  This specific unit helps eliminate chlorine, iron, and reduces nuisance particles.

Sulfur Smell- Menasha, WI

Sulfur smells can be very overwhelming and something you don't want to smell! This homeowner was having high amounts of sulfur in their home and had a EVS-1354 installed to take care of the smell. We were finding with the high amounts of sulfur in the water the smell would break through at times. We changed the programming of the EVS-1354 to handle the higher amounts of sulfur. After the programming adjustments the smell was no longer there.

Mr. B takes advantage of our salt delivery service so he does not need to carry all the salt down to the basement. He also gets the peace of mind that everything is working as it should because our service techs also test the water to ensure everything is in working order.

The homeowners were experiencing a heavy sulfur smell.  After investigating the problem, it was detereminded that the unit needed to be rebed with fresh new mineral.

System is now giving out awesome quality of water and the sulfur smell is gone.
