Ferric Iron- Oshkosh, WI
Challenge
We had a customer that has had on and off iron issues for the last couple years. When first testing the water we found a small amount of iron that a water softener should handle. After installing a newer water softener the iron issues kept happening. The iron would cause issues for a bit then go away then come back again.
Solution
After further testing we found ferric iron in the water. Ferric iron is a solid that is suspended in the water. Most iron found in well is ferrous and is dissolved in the water so you can't see it. When ferrous iron is exposed to oxygen it will convert into ferric iron. A water softener can handle a small amount of ferrous iron but ferric will go past it. An iron filter can remove both types of iron out of the water. We recommended to install an iron filter, the customer agreed and we installed the iron filter. After the install the iron is now gone and not causing issues anymore!
