Mr. and Mrs. S were having hard water and iron break through throughout the house with their past equipment. The industry average for the life-span of water softeners is about 10-15 years, and with a unit that was 11 years old, it wasn't performing to the quality this family deserved. With the fluctuation of extremely hard water and iron being present, we equipped this family with an iron filter and a resin water softener that would address any fluctuation in hardness. Mr. and Mrs. S now have their water being treated with the EVFE-1248 and the EVR-1054U that is supplemented with a Lifetime Warranty.

The homeowner had us install a new water softener in 2011.  At that point of time of purchased they agreed on using our maintenance plan agreement to keep the warranty on the unit.  Every year we come out to the home to do a 10 point performance check on the water treatment equipment and take care of the annual maintenance.  We also deliver their salt to their home and test the water before and after the treatment equipment to make sure everything is working to standards.

Mr. and Mrs. S. were having extreme hardness breakthrough with their current water softener.  They needed some help because this hardness was eating away at their fixtures, appliances and dishes.  Nate, our retail manager, met with the homeowners to discuss potential correction issues.  Their current softener could not keep up with all the hardness.  Nate was able to educate the homeowners on a few different equipment options.  The homeowners elected to go with our EVRS-1054 unit. This unit removes minerals that stain your plumbing fixtures and eliminates odors and foul tastes. reduces the hardness and minimizes water and salt use to save them money.

Where does Chilton’s drinking water come from?

According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, about 66% of Wisconsin residents get their drinking water from groundwater, and the other 33% source it from Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, or Lake Winnebago. The local government reports that about 4 in 10 people get their drinking water from private wells.

Owners of private wells are responsible for monitoring their private wells to ensure they are safe to drink from. Nitrates and arsenic, for example, are common, naturally occurring contaminants in Wisconsin soil and are often found in private well water. In Outagamie County, for example, the percentage of private wells that tested over the safe level of arsenic in drinking water was nearly four times the percentage of private wells overall in Wisconsin. However, Outagamie County reported lower numbers of unsafe nitrate levels in private wells compared to Wisconsin overall.

The Importance of Filtering Your Water

How unsafe is unfiltered water?

Proper water filtration is essential for maintaining a safe source of drinking water. Even water that is not for consumption (animal or human) should be free of harmful contaminants that can affect our lives in other ways. Water for showering, washing your clothes, nourishing your pets, and even watering your plants should be healthy. Water can be considered “dirty” due to chemical pollutants and disease-causing microbes.

There are several short-term and long-term risks associated with drinking contaminated water. Exposure to chemicals in water can result in skin discoloration or, eventually, damage to the nervous system or organs. Ingesting water with disease-causing microbes is relatively rare in the United States nowadays because of advanced water filtration practices, but that used to be a common spreader of infectious diseases, including typhoid fever and cholera. There are parts of the world where these diseases still run rampant because of inadequate or tainted drinking water supplies.

Common Sources of Drinking Water Contamination:

  • Industry & agriculture— Rainfall and water runoff can carry fertilizer and pesticides into the water system. Storage facilities for these compounds can also spread contaminants through rainfall and water runoff.
  • Human & animal waste— Sewage and septic systems can spread harmful microbes into drinking water systems. Common contaminants found in these scenarios include E.coli and Giardia.
  • Treatment & distribution— Some treatments meant to clean the water can leave behind harmful chemicals such as trihalomethanes. Flaws in the water system, such as broken or rusty pipes, can also contribute to contamination.
  • Natural sources— Groundwater can pass through soil and bedrock that is contaminated with natural arsenic, heavy metals, or radioactive compounds such as radon.

Job Stories From Chilton, WI
Complete Water Treatment Overhaul in Chilton

Patrick in Chilton had some water testing done at his home and had some questions on his existing water treatment equipment. He had a bad smell coming from his water, but to his understanding, the water treatment equipment in the basement was supposed to keep that from happening. Clean Water Center is the sister company to Clean Water Testing that did the initial water test, so CWC was suggested to advise on solutions. After calling CWC an appointment was scheduled for a consultation and a Project Coordinator was sent out to take a look. Pat decided replacing the old equipment for brand new solutions was the way to go and an appointment was scheduled that day to install a new sulfur filter, water softener, and drinking water reverse osmosis system.  Pat also opted for the annual maintenance plan, so Clean Water Center will be regularly checking in and making sure everything is working, delivering salt, and testing the water. If anything stops working, there is a lifetime warranty on all of this water treatment equipment to make sure Patrick stays satisfied with his water.

High Sulfur in Chilton, WI

As customer of ours was building a new home in the Chilton area and once the well was dug and water was running, they knew right away they had a sulfur problem. After a few attempts from the homeowner to fix it he gave us a call to check things out. After some water tests we found a high amount of sulfur in the water but something that can be managed. After talking with the homeowner, we recommended a EVS sulfur filter and a water softener. The homeowner liked the idea and decided to go with it. After a clean a quick install the customer can now enjoy the new house without any bad smells!

Iron Staining From Well Water - Chilton, WI

The homeowner built a new home on his lot and used the same well.  They are now experiencing iron in the water that they didn't have before and have a sulfur smell.  Everything was staining from the iron.  They wanted to fix the problem right away as they had just purchased all new appliances and fixtures in their new home.  Nate was able to head over to the home to investigate the issues.  It was determined that the homeowners would need a softener system (EVR-1044u) and a system that would help with the iron and sulfur smell (EVS-1354).  It was also determined that the homeowners had sediment in their water.  In order for their new water treatment equipment to function properly, a Twist II Clean filter was needed to help with the sediment.  Mr. K also decided it would be a great option to benefit from our maintenance plan program to keep the warranty on his water treatment equipment.
